Based Research Essay #2

Abstract:

Lately, campus bullying has become more frequent as far as its effect on society, and numerous campus cases have come to the attention of the community. As indicated by overview reports, there is unreasonable bullying on almost every campus, and the distinction may simply be the type of bullying and the level of harassing. As a student, I feel committed to inform more guardians or educators regarding the repulsiveness and brutality of school bullying. The moves that we should make to forestall campus bullying so as to stop more instances of school bullying is the focal thought that I chiefly go to clarify the investigation.

Keywords:Bullying in schools; countermeasures; student behaviors

I chose this question on campus bullying because I am in my student years. There are many real cases of campus bullying around me and I have witnessed the horrors of it first-hand. Through this research question, I want to learn more about the laws that exist regarding bullying in schools. Likewise, it is to learn about measures to prevent bullying in schools. Accordingly, more students will find out about the laws and preventive measures regarding school violence so that they can accurately use the “legal tools” to protect themselves. In the case of school bullying, it is divided into several situations. The first is when the bully has developed a habit of bullying the weaker students. The second scenario is the bullied has done or said something bad to the bully. The other type of school bullying is when the bully has bullied someone else without their awareness. But no matter what the situation is the bully needs to pay the appropriate punishment.

To understand the manifestations and causes of bullying in schools:

School bullying is the bullying and oppression of power inequality between child and child, which hurts the victim physically and even more psychologically. There are numerous components that add to school bullying, for example, looks, family climate, race, or frivolous clashes that lead to bullying all exist. Some would argue that many bullies bully because they have a mental illness. Even in cases, the bully will use mental illness to justify his or her hurtful behavior. “School Bullying and Youth Violence Causes or Consequences of Psychopathologic Behavior?” by Young Shin Kim, MD, MS, MPH, PhD; Bennett L. Leventhal, MD; Yun-Joo Koh, PhD, they talk about the relationship between school bullying and psychopathology. The researcher investigated two different schools in Korea, observed and calculated K-PNI data for each student, and also measured psychopathological behaviors using the Korean Youth Self- Report (K-YSR). Two hypotheses were examined, one was that psychopathological behavior was the cause of bullying and the other was that psychopathology was a consequence of bullying, and by examining both hypothetical questions over time it was concluded that psychopathological behavior was the consequence rather than the cause of bullying. Therefore, in many cases of bullying, the abuser does not get away with psychopathology as a credible reason for punishment.

In many cases, most people only know school bullying as undesirable contact between people on campus. But it’s not, in “School Bullying Among Adolescents in the United States: Physical, Verbal, Relational, and Cyber” by JingWangPh.D.Ronald J.IannottiPh.D.Tonja R.NanselPh.D. , I learned that there are actually many forms of school bullying, and many cases of school bullying can only occur in more than just school. Investigators survey of data from the Children’s Health Behavior Survey, the Victimization Survey, and cyberbullying found that “Prevalence rates of having bullied others or having been bullied at school for at least once in the last 2 months were 20.8% physically, 53.6% verbally, 51.4% socially, or 13.6% electronically.” Boys were more involved in physical or verbal bullying, whereas girls were more involved in relational bullying. But the presence of parents or education can protect or stop school violence.

The dangers and effects of bullying in schools:

School bullying is a pernicious social phenomenon that not only directs violent people to a sordid worldview, but also causes the victimized child to lose concern and interest in the people and things around them. In the M.D. dissertation, “Bullying, Psychosocial Adjustment, and Academic Performance in Elementary School “, It investigated what factors are associated with school bullying including student achievement, school attendance, statistical data including mean, standard deviation and frequency of demographic variables, and psychosocial variables. The survey showed that the mean achievement scores of groups involved in bullying in school and psychosocial outcomes were lower than those of bystanders, additionally, the victims’ grades are lower, and they get scared, terrified, and feel very insecure at school. On the other hand, studies have shown that students with character deficits or extreme insecurity are more likely to engage in bullying. What’s more, “A study of 204 Midwestern American middle and high school students found that 90% said they had a drop-in grade, an increase in anxiety, and a loss of friends or social life as a result of bullying.” This can prompt many bullied students trying to avoid being bullied, therefore, they find all kinds of reasons to skip class. This leads to the problem of a serious drop in student attendance.

Meanwhile, “Two Students Plead Guilty in Bullying of Teenager” by Erik Eckholm proves that school bullying has connected the crime cases in the society, and it is no longer a danger that can be controlled by the school. This is an exemplary instance of school tormenting. This harassing case occurred in South Hadley, Massachusetts, where six students tormented even sexually assaulted a girl named Phoebe Prince, who was tortured so much that she committed suicide in January 2010. Two of the students, Sean Mulveyhill and Kayla Narey, were seriously charged with violating Prince’s civil rights and causing real damage, while three others deal with similar to those for youth offenses. The last student, Austin Renaud, was charged with rape. This case recounts the account of how destructive school bullying can be. In the law, the bullying student is also punished by the law. Although in the end the bullies were punished by the law, the girl disappeared from this world. There are many dangers of such school bullying in the world, especially in recent years, not only school bullying, but also cyber bullying and verbal bullying can make a person lose their most precious thing, even lose someone’s life.

How to prevent school bullying:

In order to stop the viciousness of school violence, there must be effective prevention programs, “What Are the Best Ways to Prevent Bullying in Schools? A new study identifies the most effective approaches to bullying prevention” by Diana Divecha, this article is the result of research to two of the most effective bullying prevention policy responses: establishing a positive school climate and promoting social and emotional learning. Diana explains that school climate is a “ social engineering” which is “a conscious process that builds a positive culture
among student peers and school adults that becomes self-reinforcing.” A positive school climate generates more positive energy, but a positive school climate needs to be managed and maintained by all educational personnel and evaluated on a regular basis. The problem of violence in schools can only be alleviated if all teachers and parents are involved in a positive school climate.

A second effective prevention approach is the of social and emotional development (SEL), “Social and emotional learning (SEL) is well known, and involves teaching skills of self-management, social awareness, responsible decision making, and relationships management.” SEL is a skill that can help students self-regulate by studying data from large numbers of students. SEL filters out many bad moods, reduces emotional and destructive behavior, and has been found to improve academic performance, creativity, and leadership. Not only does it help students, but teachers are also very useful. Because teachers can better manage their emotions in front of students, they can feel like they are the ones who can help students with their problems.

Preventing violence in schools requires finding the most effective solutions. It is all the more important to be aware of the laws that protect the safety and rights of victims. In People’s University’s educational website, “Definition of Bullying” that gives the legal facts about bullying in schools. Although there are not many laws regarding school bullying in the law, there are still anti-bullying laws in over fifty states in the U.S. Anti-bullying laws can take action to stop bullying and investigate and document cases to protect the rights of students who are being bullied. The Americans with Disabilities Act for students with disabilities is also described, which protects the learning rights and equality of students with special needs. All of this legal knowledge can be used to protect oneself in the event of bullying and taking care of oneself is the most effective protection.

The impact of bullying in schools on families, education and society:

A family’s lifestyle can have a strong influence on a student. In “Bullying in schools and its relation to parenting and family life” by Ken Rigby, it states, “According to Ahmed and Braithwaite (2007), children who bully believe that their parents would not forgive them if they did something wrong. Arguably, they learn from their parents to be unforgiving towards others
and feel justified in acting aggressively towards those they believe may have offended them.” A lack of family structure, extreme home education, or a discordant family atmosphere can have a great impact on a young person’s personality and growth. Moreover, a person’s personality and behavior are mostly influenced by their home environment. “Flouri & Buchanan (2003) found that where adolescents report that either one or both their parents are constructively involved in their lives, they are significantly less likely to engage in bullying.”

The impact that school bullying has on academics is not to be underestimated. It’s not just about learning in school, we make many friends in school. But it is hard for the bullied to make good friends, bystanders don’t fight back against the abuser, they are afraid of being involved, so no one will dare to become friends with the victimized child in school. As a result, victims of abuse will try to keep themselves safe by skipping class and skipping school. In addition, education can lead a person down the wrong path. According to the survey, 44.4% of adolescents’ distress comes from academics, and some students lose interest in learning due to classroom blows and frustrations, leading to increasingly derailed behavior afterwards. As a consequence, school bullying is happening more frequently on campus.

With the development of society, all kinds of media are becoming more developed, and undesirable media are also developing rapidly, especially those that promote superstition, violence and obscenity, and the rapid development of books, magazines, television and the Internet is spreading the undesirable culture very fast. This has led young people to imitate and learn from these bad qualities. According to the “Youth Risk Behavior Survey (YRBS)”, school bullying has increased the proportion of social hazards such as carrying guns to school, fighting, smoking, plagiarism, etc. The number of people who are exposed to these social hazards has also increased. In conclusion, the source of information on school bullying is based mainly on the results of the bullying questionnaire which shows that school bullying brings about academic and psychological harm, not only to the school but also to the society.

Target groups for violence in schools:

This article focuses on students who have experienced school violence at school. I think more teachers, students, and parents will pay attention to the dangers of school bullying and moreover warn parents that the way they teach, and care needs to change and suggest that the school education system be stricter. As a result, more teachers need to go to better maintain the teaching atmosphere. This is the only way to reduce the harm of school bullying.

Conclusion:

For us students in school, we are generally mentally anticipating a wonderful time in school life. Be that as it may, the truth of campus life and our thoughts structure an enormous gap, which will make us gradually disdain school life, and the premium in learning and thoughts will be a lot of lower, the apparently simple school climate, yet the association with the awful conduct of society. This is a reality that numerous simple and naive students hard to acknowledge. In order to curb the occurrence of school bullying cases, we must find the root problem from the law, education, family and society, and then solve it. We have to show minors that bullying is an awful conduct. Simultaneously, beating and teasing others isn’t permitted by the law, regardless of whether you are a minor, you will be punished. Staying away from violence is the best way to gain schools and society better and progress.
